About Me

Played on the 1948'49'50'51, Newark HS teams,,,, 1950 9-0-1,,1951 we were undefeated,,,,10 and 0,,,beat all the top Wilmington teams. I was a defensive right end and punted for the Yellow jackets,,,cause the fumble that led to us defeating Wilmington at Newark under the lights 13-12. Bob La Fazia ran over me a couple of times  and I considered it an honor ,as a Spohmore, to be able to play on the same field with him,,,but don't tell him. Tranfered to Elkton HS, in fall of 52" and made all state there,,, scored all the points in our 13-6 victory over Newark in 53' Played bothways for Elkton, made all state in football, basketball. Later went to Marshall U., in W.Va., on football scolarship. In 1963 Broke into Professional Wrestling,,,have been placed in the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame here in Oregon/Washington. I think I am the only Pro wrestler ever to come out of Newark HS. Am now an ordained pastor here in SW Washington State,,, have a farm high in the Cascade range near a small logging town called Yacolt. Seems like only yesterday I was under Coach Frend Spisato and Ray Cisenski at Newark. Coach Fred should be in the Delaware HOF he deserves it,,,,he took a bunch of kids and made state champions out of them in the late 40's and early 50's and noone even gave him a glance... My pro nam is Dutch Savage,,, just type my name in on the net,,,or just look up dutchsavage.com,,,you'll be supprised what you will find on me ,,,,, Blessings, Frank Stewart.......my favorite Delaware footballer is Bob LaFzia,,(next to Bunny Blaney), because he is humble enough to put all this site together and has given so much to Delaware HS Football,,,God Bless him

Br. Ralph, Thanks for the nice note, I am very lucky to have been on the Wiklmington Police Department with such a go getter as yourself. You made more arrests in one month that did the enitre deprttment in a year including those crazy motor cycle cops. I was also very humbled to have been on the same fields as Bunny Blaney, Davie George, Jimmy Oddo, Bob LaFazio, Ralph Foster, Dave Hurn, Albie Sparks, Buckey Buiano and hundreds of others. But,, now that I have found you my old friend I can say i was "on the field" with a legendary Wilmington, Delaware Detective,,, who "busted" them all big and small,,, Blessings Br. Frank

Well Now Joe,,, What a plesant note,,,glad you with us still,,we have lost so many great people over these past few years. You should be a writer Joe. Great notes. Yes,, you fellows from Sallies never liked to come into Yellow Jacket territory,,, we kind of humbled you a bit didn't we,,, and oh yes!! a certain scool I won't mention the name because the web master will shoot me. that school's nick name was the Red Revils me thinks.
I understand you and Ralph are still great buddies, fantastic,,, he e-mailed me this AM ,said he was going out 25 miles from shore to fish with one of his Greek friends. Told him I never take my boat any where that I can not see both banks,,, still fishing and able to handle the boat myself , praise God!Lot's of really big Salmon coming to Columbia River and it's tributaries this summer,,,great fun. Hope life has been as good as the Lord ha made it for us,,, please.... keep in touch,,we are the last of a very special generation,,, Blessings,,, Pastor Frank stewart

Frank ( Dutch) if I may call you by that name also????? I did what you stated in your BIO above. Quite frankly, I was impressed at the magnitude of videos available on the one site. Needless to say, I wasn't able to watch all of them in one sitting, but will go back and see more later. ( Added them to my favorites page) - Incidently, your singing voice matches mine perfectly. We both sound like a couple bull-frogs in a tunnel. ( LOL)

Bunny Blaney was in the news several times when I came home on "Leave" from the Military. Perhaps I was somewhat prejudiced in thinking there were only great athletes and they were from Sallies. ( Strusowski, Buiano, etc.) but I am very liberal now and think otherwise.

I wish we had met many years ago and had become friends. Back in those days, I needed someone like you as a friend. I was surely on the road to damnation and the Marine Corps saved my life by giving me purpose. Otherwise, I may have ended up in jail or being dead. Regardless, life is what it is and it has been good to me since then. I became a Cop and if I might add, a very good one too. I never took a dime and never hurt anyone intentionally.

I wish you well and drop a line once in a while. Have a great day and God Bless you my friend. - Joe

Frank, I just read your "BIO" and some of the comments below. I see that I am in exaulted company. Ralph Pryor, a Brother Officer from the Wilmington Police Dept. along with Clark Jester, another prominent Law Enforcement Officer ( Delaware State Police) are among the people whom I call friends by association. Bob LaFazia ( The Web Master here) is also a friend whom I met along the way is to be congratulated for initiating this site. It was a long time in coming, but I am certain it will persevere and grow until it becomes a focal point on the "WEB" and Facebook. Thank you Bob !!!!!!!!

Frank, thanks for the comment. I wasn't much of an athlete in school because I left so early in my sophmore year. Bob Schiavi was a classmate of mine and did well on the gridiron. Others in my class were Vinnie Bifferato who became a Superior Court Judge and Larry Sullivan who still is the Public Defender for the State of Delaware. There were others who became prominent and should be honored for their achievements. I know this is a sports page and I'll leave it at that. As to myself, I was always an
"All American" at heart. Had I stayed in school at the urging of Fr. "Buzzy" O'neill, O.S.F., who knows what I may have achieved. ???????????????????

Dutch,
Thank you so much for the nice comments ! OK...just to remind you that when we played you guys, (Newark High) we had one weeks practice for the Newark game...never forget it...Joe Perna and I, (both tackles) would pretend in practice that a certain back was Bunny Blaney...whatever side he was on...we moved to that side!
Well, it didn't take Fred Sposato to long to figure that out when the game was on...when the "Bunn" moved to the right side, we moved to the left...WRONG!
He picked it up right away...got beat by a better team by a couple TD's...Thanx anyway Dutch for the nice comments!
